GHS christens renovated locker room complex

GUSTINE – Gustine High School christened its newly-renovated locker room complex with a ribbon-cutting and tours last Wednesday afternoon.

The project, which carried a $2.7 million construction cost, involved taking the school’s dilapidated locker rooms down to a shell and rebuilding the facility with state-of-the-art amenities.

“What we have now is cutting-edge as far as infrastructure and facilities,” said Principal John Petrone. “For all intents and purposes, it is a brand new building.”

The project also involved renovation of the public restrooms serving the GHS gym.

The new facilities are a world removed from the old locker rooms.

“It was embarrassing to have officials and opposing players and coaches coming into our locker room. It was abysmal,” Petrone commented. “(This) is a breath of fresh air.”
