Old Weston School is Gone

RIPON – The crew of W.C. Maloney, Inc. has been paving the way for construction to begin soon at Weston Elementary School.

The Stockton-based professional wrecking and site-clearing contractors began demolition of the Ripon Unified campus about a month ago.

This process was one of the many moving parts of the voter-approved Measure G project.

“It’s been quite a process,” said Superintendent Bill Draa on Thursday.

State schools chief praises lawmakers at groundbreaking for special education building

BEACHWOOD – Tom Torlakson, state superintendent of public instruction, shared a major accomplishment Friday morning with local educators, the groundbreaking for a $1.9 million special education building on the campus of a Beachwood area elementary school.

Torlakson, state Sen. Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, and Assemblyman Adam Gray, D-Merced, spoke briefly before ceremonial shovels of dirt were turned at Joe Stefani School on Ranchero Lane. All three were instrumental in getting state funding restored for the 5,600-square-foot special education facility.

Ceres Alternative Education Programs Getting New Home on Mitchell Road

CERES — A new Stanislaus County Office of Education school for struggling students is going up on Mitchell Road, designed to replace an older site on Memorial Drive.

“Right now, we’re in portables and an old doctor’s office,” said Ceres Community School Principal Telka Walser. The as-yet-unnamed site, weather permitting, will open in January 2015, she said.

High-schoolers attending the community school and Stanislaus Arts Academy, along with junior high students at the boot-camp-style Technical Character Academy, will move to the new site initially, said Scott Kuykendall, director of the SCOE Educational Options Division.

ESCALON – A multi-faceted, multi-million dollar renovation and upgrade for the Escalon Unified School District is under way.
