Major Modernization Projects Transforming East Union High School

East Union High School is entering a new chapter as major modernization projects funded through the Manteca Unified School District Measure A Bond Program continue to take shape across campus.

The improvements are designed not only to enhance educational facilities but also to support East Union’s ongoing commitment to academic achievement, student engagement, athletics, career education, and long-term community growth.

A New Academic Center for Learning

The centerpiece of the modernization effort is a new two-story classroom building featuring 26 classrooms and a modern media center.

Located along North Union Road, the facility is designed to become a prominent feature of the campus while providing students and teachers with flexible, technology-ready learning environments.

• The building includes innovative design elements intended to support modern education, including:
• Flexible classroom configurations
• Writable wall surfaces that double as instructional tools
• Movable partitions that allow spaces to expand and adapt
• Integrated technology infrastructure
• Enhanced audio-visual capabilities

Construction is being led by C.T. Brayton & Sons, with completion targeted for June 2025.

Creating a College-Like Environment

According to East Union High School Principal Eric Simoni, the new facilities are intended to help create an environment that better reflects the expectations of higher education and today’s workforce.

“It will have a college feel,” Simoni shared during a presentation to the Manteca Rotary Club.

The modernization effort is also helping re-energize the school community through campus improvements, updated branding, and renewed focus on excellence in academics, athletics, arts, and career technical education.

Expanded Athletic and Wellness Facilities

Additional Measure A improvements at East Union High School include:

• A new small gymnasium
• A new weight room
• An indoor physical education facility
• Dedicated space for aerobics and wrestling programs

The new gymnasium is expected to be completed in early 2025 and will expand opportunities for student athletics, physical education, and extracurricular activities.

Upgrades to Dino Cunial Stadium

Separate from the Measure A Bond Program, East Union High School has also completed significant improvements to Dino Cunial Stadium.

The stadium modernization includes:

• Hybrid Bermuda turf designed for improved performance and durability
• New facilities for high jump, shot put, discus, and field events
• Improved drainage and grading systems
• Enhanced functionality for hosting complete track and field competitions

While many improvements are visible throughout the facility, district officials note that the upgraded infrastructure beneath the surface will provide some of the most significant long-term benefits.

Planning for the Future

East Union High School currently serves approximately 1,450 students, but the modernization plan was developed with future growth in mind.

The new facilities are designed to support an educational program capacity of approximately 2,250 students, helping the district accommodate future enrollment growth while maintaining high-quality learning environments.
