OSHA has made reducing trenching and excavation hazards the Agency’s Priority Goal. There has been an increase in trench and excavation related incidents lately. A cubic yard of soil can weigh as much as a small pickup truck and workers need to be protected from trench collapses and cave-ins. This month C.T. Brayton & Sons reviewed hazards and solutions when working around trenches. We have also created a Pre-excavation Check-List to highlight any potential hazards with underground utilities. This also helps us to ensure operators and trench workers remain protected and are aware of their surroundings.
