NEWMAN – Construction of a multi-use building to house a library, classrooms and office space for itinerant resource providers at Hurd Barrington Elementary School is moving forward.
School board members voted 4-0 last week, with Janice Conforti absent, to approve a $2 million, lease-lease back contract with CT Brayton & Sons for construction of the campus addition.
The library building, which will stand in what is now an open quad area in the center of campus, was part of the initial school design but due to financial constraints was not part of the original construction of Barrington Elementary, which opened in 2011.
Officials have pointed to the library as the first and foremost project to be funded through a bond reauthorization proposal going to Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District voters in November.
Other circumstances, however, have prompted the district to move forward without knowing the outcome of Measure P.
