Wildfire smoke has blanketed the valley recently and left us with unhealthy air at times. Inhalation of this fine particulate matter can cause lung irritation, difficulty breathing, and persistent coughing. We use the Air Quality Index (AQI) to measure air pollution and have an action level of 151 which we check before work and then periodically during the workday. When the AQI reaches that unhealthy level, we take appropriate measures to protect workers such as move work indoors, increase rest time in areas with filtered air, reduce the physical intensity of work, and provide N95 respirators to reduce exposure to wildfire smoke.
